Natalie Sulmonte scored four goals while freshman
Kaitlin Thornton scored four points, but No. 5 James Madison scored five-straight goals to close the first half en route to a 16-10 victory over the No. 8 Tigers in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship game Sunday at Sentara Park.
With 15 wins, one short of the school record, Towson (15-4) will await selections for the 2018 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship tonight at 9:30 p.m., on NCAA.com to find out where it will play next.

How It Happened
- James Madison (18-1) scored the game's first two goals before Sulmonte got the Tigers on the board with 22:17 remaining in the first half.
- The two teams then traded goals over the next 10 minutes with senior Emily Gillingham scoring on a free position shot with 10:52 left to pull Towson within one, 5-4.
- However, the Dukes scored five-straight over the final eight minutes to take a 10-4 halftime lead.
- James Madison held an 18-10 edge in shots in the first half while winning 11 of 15 draw controls and forcing seven turnovers.
- Sophomore Kiley Keating made six of her seven saves in the opening half, but James Madison's leading scorers Elena Romesburg and Kristen Gaudian combined for five goals.
- Towson opened the second half by scoring three consecutive goals from Thornton, Sulmonte and junior Carly Tellekamp to pull within three, 10-7, with 21:19 to play.
- Gaudian netted her third of the game before Sulmonte scored again off an assist from Thornton with 19:29 remaining.
- The Dukes then scored four-straight over the next 8:14 to push the lead to seven, 15-8, with 7:44 left.
- Sulmonte scored her fourth goal of the game with 4:01 to play before Gillingham scored with 1:45 remaining to cap the scoring.
