Women’s Soccer Drops League Game Against Northeastern

TOWSON, Md. - After a cold rainy match at Tiger Sports Complex, the Towson University women's soccer team could not overcome an early lead by Northeastern University as the Tigers fell 3-0 on Thursday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action.

Three different Tigers (3-9-1, 0-3-0 CAA), Monica Scaglione, Alexis Toles and Jenna Blank, each took a shot on the goal. Olivia Ware, Hannah Rosenblatt and Katarina Nilsson each scored for Northeastern (6-6-1, 3-0-0 CAA).

How it Happened:
  • Towson started early with a shot by McKenzie McCaull at the 14:19 mark, but the chance bounced off the goalpost before a Husky defender knocked it out of bounds. That led to the game's first corner kick by Nikki Logan and another shot by Justine Stoner.
  • It was then back-to-back shots by Northeastern's Rosenblatt and Grace Moore and that got the ball rolling. At the 17:51 mark in the first half Ware was assisted by Rosenblatt for the first goal of the game.
  • Two more Towson shots were attempted by Sarah Quick and Justine Stoner, but it was goal by Rosenblatt that would put Northeastern up by two.
  • The first half would end with two more shot attempts by the Tigers as Towson was narrowly out-shot 7-6 in the half.
  • Towson got off to an early start to the second half with another shot by Neidert.
  • A yellow card and offside call on Towson slowed down the Tigers' momentum.
  • At the 77:36 mark, the final goal of the match was scored by Nilsson for Northeastern and lead them to the 3-0 decision over Towson.
Behind the Numbers:
  • Despite the loss, the Tigers out-shot Northeastern 19-15 and held the advantage on corner kicks 5-1.
  • Megan Collins had a total of four saves for Towson holding them to one attempt the second half. Her counterpart, Nathalie Nidetch, stopped four Tiger chances.
  • Despite the sloppy conditions, it was a slow day on fouls as the Tigers were called six times while Northeastern was whistled for three miscues.
