Deja Vu: Towson-UNCW On Jan. 5 For 2nd Straight Season

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's basketball team continues its three-game homestand by hosting UNCW in a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) matinee.

  • Jordan McNeil led the Tigers with a season best 14 points against the College of Charleston.

  • He scored 13 points against William & Mary on Feb. 25, 2016 and 10 points against Northeastern on Mar. 4, 2016 in a CAA Tournament victory.

  • Fobbs, who leads Towson in scoring with a 15.8 point per game average, is ninth in the CAA in scoring (15.8 points per game), 10th in 3-pointers made per game (2.1) and 12th in field goal percentage (43.9).
  • The Tigers have three players among the league leaders in blocked shots: Tunstall (fifth, 0.9), Sanders (10th, 0.7) and Thomas (12th, 0.6).
  • Tobias Howard is 13th in assists (2.7) and 3-pointers made per game (1.7).

  • Fobbs scored 13 points, five rebounds and three assists in the 67-55 loss.

  • Towson has scored 80 or more points in a game against UNCW five times in series history.

  • UNCW ended a six-game losing streak by beating JMU 86-83 in double overtime Thursday night in Harrisonburg.
  • Cylla poured in a career-high 24 points to anchor three players in double figures scoring for the Seahawks, who netted 46 points in the paint on the night.
  • Cacok registered his ninth double-double of the season and 44th of his career with 18 points and 19 rebounds.
  • Freshman guard Kai Toews contributed 12 points and nine assists in 45 minutes.
  • The Seahawks owned a decisive 53-32 rebounding advantage, including 20-7 on the offensive glass.
  • UNCW is third in the CAA in scoring offense (76.9) and last in scoring defense (81.4).
  • The Seahawks are second in the CAA in assists per game (15.4).
 
Tigers Featured On CAA Broadcast Package
  • For the second consecutive season, 12 CAA men's basketball conference games will be televised by CBS Sports Digital on CollegeSportsLive.com.
  • Towson University men's basketball will be featured twice on the schedule for its home contests on Jan. 24 against Northeastern and Feb. 28 versus William & Mary inside of SECU Arena. 
  • All 10 CAA teams will have at least two contests on the "Game of the Week" package, with Charleston, Hofstra, Northeastern and William and Mary making three appearances.
 
Perfection When It Comes to Graduation
  • Towson has a perfect men's basketball graduation rate under head coach Pat Skerry.
  • The Tigers are 21-for-21.
 
Towson In the Community
  • Towson is the Division I national champion of the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Competition for the Fall 2018 semester. Towson completed the most community service hours among all schools in the competition, including 75 different Division I departments and approximately 300 total programs across the country.
  • The Towson men's basketball team has been active in the community since returning to campus in August. Members of the team spoke at Loch Raven Academy, participated in Towson West Elementary School's Back To School Night and the Autism Speaks Walk.
  • In addition to the athletic and academic success, the Tigers ranked first nationally in Division I men's team sports for their community service activities in the 2017 NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Community Service Competition.
 
Coaches Powering Forward
  • Autism Speaks Coaches Powering Forward will take place on the weekend of February 15-17, 2019.
  • The Tigers host Drexel on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.
  • Last season, more than 375 NCAA coaches participated by wearing an Autism Speaks blue puzzle piece lapel pin to help increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism.
  • In total, more than 4,400 pins were worn by coaching staff, officials, broadcasters, and school teams.
  • Autism currently affects one in every 59 children in the U.S and for most, is a lifelong condition.

Non-Conference Game In January Facts
  • This will be Towson's first non-conference game in January since it beat Coppin State 81-79 on the road on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014.
  • That's the date Towson played for the Football Championship Subdivision national title against North Dakota State.
  • This will be the Tigers' first non-conference home game beyond December since it lost to Loyola, 75-57, on Feb. 19 at the Towson Center in an ESPN Bracketbuster contest.
  • This will be the first non-conference home game after December under Skerry.
