TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team has released its 2020 schedule, a challenging slate taking the Tigers to Hawaii plus up and down the East Coast.
Towson is scheduled to play 56 games in seven different states, include 25 games at the friendly confines of John B. Schuerholz Park and a full Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) slate. The seven states including the home state of Maryland and the program's first-ever trip to Hawaii.
The Tigers are entering the third season under head coach
Matt Tyner. In 2019, the Tigers earned CAA series victories over Hofstra and Delaware plus notched a road win against Big Ten opponent Penn State. Towson returns its top two players in batting average and doubles and several pitchers in a staff that improved in ERA by 1.72 the previous year and struck out 380 batters, fourth-most in Towson single season history.
"With these non-conference opponents, we have done all we can to get our guys ready and prepared for the rigorous grind of the CAA," said Tyner. "We will need to play good, solid baseball. It'll be a good test for us to see how we fare against these non-conference opponents. We know once we get into the CAA what it takes to win there."
The season begins with three weekend road trips down south. The Tigers begin the 2020 season in Norfolk, Virginia, taking on Old Dominion for a three-game series from Feb. 14-16, then next weekend, heading to North Carolina for a trio of games vs. High Point from Feb. 21-23.
