PHILADELPHIA - Friday night the Towson University field hockey team returned to action to face Drexel on the road. Two members of the Black and Gold scored but the Dragons came back in the fourth quarter to tie and win the game 4-3.
Towson continues its road trip with another Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opponent in Hofstra on Sunday at noon.
How it Happened
- Towson wasted no time at all, freshman Samantha Aljets scored the first goal of the day at the 1:36 mark.
- The road team held on defensively, keeping Drexel scoreless through the entire first half, holding a 1-0 lead at halftime.
- Starting the third period, the Tigers struck quickly once again, this time from Georgia Beachley 31 minutes in.
- Four minutes later, Aljets found the back of the net again and extended the lead to 3-0 with 25 minutes to go.
- In the final minutes of the third period, the Dragons scored their first goal of the evening cutting the lead to two.
- Towson continued to defend penalty corners and shots from the home team, but a 3-0 scoring run from Drexel tied the game and took the lead. Towson did not see the back of the net in the fourth quarter and the Dragons held on for the win.
Beyond the Box
- Samantha Aljets and Georgia Beachley now have seven goals apiece this year, they lead the team in scoring.
- Aljets continues to lead the team in assists with six on the year.
- Towson has scored 23 goals this season, surpassing the previously highest mark of 21 goals in 2012.
- Freshman goalkeeper Tess Okkerse has 97 saves following Friday's game, she is leading the CAA in saves.
