HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Sunday afternoon the Towson University field hockey team played in a rainy game at Hofstra, falling 3-0 after a delay in the third period.
Towson returns to action on Friday at home against James Madison.
How it Happened
- The first period held a slow start as the rain poured, Towson had two early corners and two shots but ended the first 15 minutes scoreless.
- In the second quarter the Pride lit up offensively with eight shots, finally connecting for a goal and taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.
- Goalkeeper Tess Okkerse came up with four saves in the second.
- Coming out of the halftime break, lightning entered the area and a 38-minute delay followed.
- Towson saw three opportunities in the third off of two penalty corners but did not see the back of the net.
- Hofstra scored once more in the final two minutes of the third period extending the lead 2-0.
- In the fourth the Tigers had a corner resulting in a shot, saved by the Pride.
- On the next penalty corner for the home team, Hofstra scored its third goal of the day with 11 minutes remaining.
- Neither team scored again in the remainder of the game as the Pride's defense stopped Towson from getting any more shots off.
Beyond the Box
- Tess Okkerse came up with five saves, she now has 102 on the season and continues to lead the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in saves.
- With five corners today, the Tigers have 69 on the season with two games remaining. Last year Towson finished with 65 corners on the entire season.
