TOWSON, Md. – Friday afternoon the Towson field hockey team hosted James Madison in the penultimate game of the regular season. The Tigers fell 3-1.
Towson was led by freshman
Mackenzie Tillman who scored the solo goal for the home team.
How it Happened
- The first period started very slow with neither team getting a shot or corner until the Tigers got on the board.
- In front of the JMU goal, Towson took a shot which was deflected and the road team crowded around, the ball bouncing between several sticks. Tillman was able to get an open look and sent the ball into the net.
- The Tigers held the lead into the second period and up until four minutes were left in the half. James Madison had a strong offensive possession leading to a few shots, finally getting one in off a rebounded shot and tying the game up.
- Coming into the third period the road team scored 1:44 later, taking the 2-1 lead. In the 44th minute the Dukes struck again.
- Towson saw one more penalty corner in the fourth period and had a shot taken but were unable to connect with the back of the net.
Beyond the Box
- Mackenzie Tillman's score is her second of the season. Her goals combined with fellow freshmen Samantha Aljets and Georgia Beachley make up 16 of Towson's 24 goals this season.
