Towson Looking To Keep The Good Times Rolling

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Towson University men's basketball team enters February with plenty of momentum generated from a furious finish to the month of January.
 
The Tigers roll into the College of Charleston for their next Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) challenge having won three of their last four games, including a pulsating 77-76 victory over UNCW on Thursday night.
 
The Tigers are one of five CAA teams clustered together with identical 4-6 conference marks. Also, sitting at 4-6 are Elon, Drexel, William & Mary and UNCW. Towson has a perfect opportunity to emerge from the crowded group as five of its final seven CAA games will be in the friendly confines of SECU Arena.

Towson Update
  • Brian Fobbs posted his second double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds in a 77-76 win over UNCW on Thursday.
  • Fobbs tallied double digits in 19 straight games and has been TU's leading scorer in 18 of the past 21 contests. He's grabbed 40 boards in the last five games.
  • Jordan McNeil scored 11 points against UNCW, which was his fifth double-figure game in CAA play.
  • Tobias Howard hit two threes and scored 11 points vs. UNCW. He has six double-figure efforts in the past eight games and is averaging 10.9 ppg in that stretch.
  • The Tigers top the CAA in rebound margin (+5.9 rpg).
  • Dennis Tunstall posted his first double-digit scoring game of the season against UNCW with 11 points. He also made his first career 3-pointer during a personal 9-0 surge in the first half.
 
A Look At College of Charleston
  • Grant Riller and Jarrell Brantley combined for 46 points to lead College of Charleston to a 70-53 victory over James Madison on Thursday night at TD Arena.
  • It marked the 13th game this season that both combined for 40+ in a single game.
  • The Cougars have won three in a row.
  • CofC has held three straight league opponents to under 60 points.
  • Jaylen McManus made a team-high seven rebounds including five on the defensive end against JMU. It marked the fifth time in his career to lead the team in rebounding in a single game.
  • Riller is averaging 21.3 points per game against CAA opponents while Brantley averages 17.3 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest. They are also shooting at least 50 percent from the field.
 
The First Meeting
  • Senior guard Jordan McNeil scored a season-high 14 points to lead the Tigers in a 67-55 loss to CofC on Jan. 3 at SECU Arena.
  • Junior Brian Fobbs added 13 points, five rebounds and three assists. Nakye Sanders finished with 11 points and a team best eight rebounds.
  • Riller scored 15 of his game-high 24 points in the first half to help the Cougars to a 29-23 halftime lead. Brantley had 15 of his 23 points after intermission.
 
Perfection When It Comes to Graduation
  • Towson has a perfect men's basketball graduation rate under head coach Pat Skerry.
  • The Tigers are 21-for-21.
 
Towson In the Community
  • Towson is the Division I national champion of the NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Competition for the Fall 2018 semester. Towson completed the most community service hours among all schools in the competition, including 75 different Division I departments and approximately 300 total programs across the country.
  • The Towson men's basketball team has been active in the community since returning to campus in August. Members of the team spoke at Loch Raven Academy, participated in Towson West Elementary School's Back To School Night and the Autism Speaks Walk.
  • In addition to the athletic and academic success, the Tigers ranked first nationally in Division I men's team sports for their community service activities in the 2017 NCAA Team Works Helper Helper Community Service Competition.
 
Coaches Powering Forward
  • Autism Speaks Coaches Powering Forward will take place on the weekend of February 15-17, 2019.
  • Tigers host Drexel on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.
  • The Towson women will host the College of Charleston on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m.
  • Last season, more than 375 NCAA coaches participated by wearing an Autism Speaks blue puzzle piece lapel pin to help increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism.
  • In total, more than 4,400 pins were worn by coaching staff, officials, broadcasters, and school teams.
  • Autism currently affects one in every 59 children in the U.S and for most, is a lifelong condition.
 
CAA Tournament Tickets on Sale
  • All-session ticket books for the 2019 CAA Men's Basketball Championship go on sale Thursday, January 10 through TicketMaster (1-800-745-3000), TicketMaster.com and the North Charleston Coliseum Advance Ticket office.
  • The CAA's premier event returns to the Lowcountry on March 9-12, 2019 as the North Charleston (S.C.) Coliseum hosts nine games over four days, with the winner earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.
  • Ticket books, which provide admission to all games of the tournament, can be purchased for as little as $80.
