CONWAY, S.C. – Sara Johnson and
Ashley Cruise pitched two complete games as the Towson University softball team swept the morning winning a pair of games in the final day of the Coastal Carolina Tournament Sunday at St. John Stadium.
The Tigers (4-4, 0-0 CAA) defeated Marshall 3-2 in game one of the afternoon. Two late homers helped Towson defeat Presbyterian College 9-1 in five innings.
How it Happened-Game 1
- Johnson and Juila Smith-Harrington scored runs in the second inning on Riley Thies' triple to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead .
- Chloe Poulich stole home on the back end of a double steal in the top of the fourth to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
- Marshall scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut into the Tigers' lead and make it a 3-2 game.
- The Tigers had nine hits on the day with Thies leading the way with two.
- Johnson struck out eight batters in a complete game effort.
How it Happened- Game 2
- With a double to left center, Smith-Harrington drove in Nicole Stockinger and Madison Wilson to put Towson up 2-0 in the bottom of the first.
- A single up the middle by Nicole Kidwiler scored Kendall Arcia and gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
- Presbyterian answered back in the top of the fourth scoring one, making it 3-1 Towson.
- Arcia homered in the bottom of the fourth to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead.
- Jaclyn Mounie tripled to right scoring Thies. Wilson reached on an error, scoring Mounie in the top of the fifth. Stockinger doubled to right center to score Wilson and then a homer by Smith-Harrington scored Stockinger.
- Towson had five runs on three hits in the fifth inning to end the game 9-1.
- Cruise struck out two batters in a complete game effort.

The Tigers will face Tennessee Tech on day one at 12 p.m. inside Pepsi Softball Stadium.
