TOWSON, Md. – This weekend the Towson University women's tennis team travels to Pittsburgh to face the University at Buffalo and Duquesne. The Tigers face Buffalo tomorrow at 4 p.m. before taking on Duquesne on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Towson is 1-2 on the year after winning the first game of the season last weekend against La Salle. Saturday's game will be at Duquesne's facility, a neutral site matchup.
Buffalo is undefeated 3-0 after winning two games last weekend over Siena and Niagara. The Dukes are 2-2 on the year after falling to West Virginia and Delaware last weekend. The Bulls were selected to win the Mid-American Conference tile this year after winning it the last two years. Towson defeated Buffalo in 2017, a 4-3 victory at the Alpha Club in Pittsburgh. Renata Van Oorschodt clinched the victory with a three-set win over her opponent in singles action.
Duquesne has taken wins over Youngstown State and Saint Francis and will face the Bulls on Friday before Towson faces both teams.
Last weekend the Tigers split with a loss to Navy but came back to defeat the Explorers 4-0.
Alexa Martinez and
Yevgeniya Shusterman took a 6-1 win in doubles and
Themis Haliou and
Lucy Gloninger followed with a 6-3 win to secure the doubles point for Towson.
In singles action Pheobe Collins led the way with victory followed by Shusterman and Gloninger wins.
Next week Towson returns home to host Richmond at an indoor facility.
