TOWSON, Md. – This weekend the Towson University women's tennis team travels for its first Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) game of the year at Hofstra on Saturday and a nonconference matchup at NJIT on Sunday.
The Tigers (1-5) face Hofstra (4-4) in New York with 7 p.m. start tomorrow. The Pride have won three of the last four games, including a 7-0 win over Providence on the road. This week Hofstra's doubles team of Odessa Stork and Ronia Dolabany were named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week following strong performances against Providence and Bryant.
Against the Pride, Towson is 9-0 since the 2009-10 season. Last year the two teams met at the USTA National Campus Tennis Club in Orlando, Florida and the Tigers came out with a 6-1 victory.
NJIT (8-1) and Towson have not met in a dual match since at least 2001. The Highlanders are having a dominant spring season with only one loss, to Drexel two weeks ago. NJIT is coming off a 5-2 win over Army on Sunday and has a 6-1 record at home.
Towson is coming off a tough home loss to Richmond 6-1. After winning the doubles set,
Themis Haliou twisted her ankle impacting her play and the Tigers fell in the final two doubles sets, as the Spiders took a 1-0 lead.
Phoebe Collins won her singles set tying the score at 1-1, before the final singles games went into three sets each.
Towson will be on the road four of the next five games, returning home next week to host Rutgers at an indoor facility off campus.
