ANN ARBOR, Mich. - After coming back to take the lead the Towson University women's lacrosse team fell to Michigan on the road 12-11.
The Tigers were led by both
Natalie Sulmonte and
Kaitlin Thornton who scored four goals each. Towson falls to 0-6 on the year while the Wolverines improve to 9-0.
How it Happened
- Both teams scored once in the first four minutes of action with Molly Lynch scoring her first collegiate goal.
- Michigan tacked on the next three goals, taking a 4-1 lead with 14:51 remaining in the first.
- On a free position shot, Shelby Stack scored her fifth goal of the season, cutting the lead to two.
- The Wolverines extended the lead by one with 9:58 left in the first.
- Natalie Sulmonte scored the next two goals, first assisted by Kaitlin Thornton and the second solo.
- Michigan responded three minutes later, taking a two goal lead up 6-4 with 3:19 remaining in the first.
- Sulmonte took her third goal of the day before the half, cutting the lead to one again. The home team scored once more, one minute before the half ended and took a 7-5 lead into the locker room.
- Sophomore Kaitlin Thornton came out of the locker room hot, scoring the first three goals of the second half.
- Thornton tallied the eighth goal of the day for Towson, taking an 8-7 lead with 23:56 to go.
- Michigan took a 4-0 run, taking an 11-8 lead with 9:10 remaining. One goal on a free position attempt and one goal woman up.
- The Tigers scored three straight, one from Abby Wilkinson and one from Sulmonte and Thornton each.
- On Thornton's final goal of the day, she tied the game 11-11 with 23 seconds left.
- The Wolverines scored with just 10 seconds remaining to seal the one-point win.
