MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Saturday afternoon the Towson University tennis team fell to West Virginia on the road in a 7-0 final.
The Tigers will open conference play next Friday, April 5 against UNCW at home on the Towson Center Courts.
How it Happened
- After falling in the first two doubles matches, Towson moved on to singles play.
- The Tigers saw a huge fight from Amelia Lawson who took her opponent to a 7-point final in the second set. Lawson couldn't turn to take the win.
- Phoebe Collins took the second set win 6-4 after falling 6-1 in the first set. The third set was a two-point tie-breaker with an 11-9 finish as Collins fell.
- Towson didn't see any other wins in singles action.
From the Coach
"We competed well today in singles but it wasn't good enough to overcome WVU," said head coach
Jamie Peterson. "They are in the Big 12 and compete well against several top-20 teams in their conference. We almost pulled out a couple of wins and had lots of tight second sets. Now comes the most important part of the season where we have eight of the last nine matches at home, as well as three conference games, which will have a big influence on seeding at the conference tournament."
