Thornton Scores Two as Towson Falls to No. 10 Loyola

 
TOWSON, Md. – Wednesday night the Towson University women's lacrosse team faced its fifth ranked opponent of the year in No. 10 Loyola at Johnny Unitas ® Stadium. The No. 25 Tigers fell 12-6 with two goals from sophomore Kaitlin Thornton.
 
How it Happened
  • In a blustery late-afternoon game, the Greyhounds took a three-goal lead eight minutes into the game.
  • Towson scored its first goal from Kaitlin Thornton, unassisted, her seventh of the year at that point, cutting the lead to 3-1 with 20 minutes and 54 seconds remaining in the first half.
  • Loyola responded just 56 seconds later and regained the three-point advantage.
  • At the 11:46 mark, senior attack Carly Tellekamp scored on a free position shot, her fifth goal of the season.
  • Tellekamp's goal cut the lead to 5-2 with 11:46 to go in the half. The Greyhounds were once again quick to respond, tallying their sixth goal of the night at the 10:55 mark.
  • Loyola reached a 7-2 lead with 8:58 left in the first, before the Tigers held the road team scoreless for the remainder of the period.
  • Thornton struck again, with an unassisted goal right before the halftime break. The sophomore's score cut the lead to four entering the locker room.
  • Towson scored two more unanswered goals, from Shelby Stack and Rayna Deltuva, putting the game at 7-5 with the Greyhounds leading.
  • The road team opened a 3-0 run from the 22nd to the 11th minute and extended the lead to 10-5.
  • With 10:43 on the clock, Annie Sachs scored her ninth goal of the year, making it a four-point game. That was as close as the Tigers would get to tying the game up.
  • In the final eight minutes the home team would not score again while Loyola tallied two more.

Sunday the Tigers will take on No. 13 Michigan in Ann Arbor.
