Tennis Takes 6-1 Win Over Saint Joseph's

TOWSON, Md. – Saturday afternoon proved successful for the Towson University tennis team as the Tigers took a 6-1 win over Saint Joseph's at home.
 
Towson moves to 12-12 on the year and has two more games in the regular season, both tomorrow against nonconference opponents.
 
How it Happened
  • In doubles action the team of Phoebe Collins and Themis Haliou took the first win, followed by a 6-4 victory from Jessica Assenmacher and Lucy Gloninger to secure the first point of the day.
  • Yevgeniya Shusterman and Alexa Martinez also took a doubles win.
  • Entering singles play Shusterman won the first match in two sets. Gloninger's two-set win extened the Tigers lead to 3-0.
  • Senior Claire Bedi also took a two-set victory with 6-3 and 6-1 wins, while Collins and Haliou won the next two matches.
  • The Hawks' single win came in a three-set match over Martinez.

"Today was a great day for Towson tennis," said head coach Jamie Peterson. "Not only did we get to honor Claire, Jane (Shusterman) and Lucy, but after winning the doubles points the three seniors won their three singles points first to clinch the match. Claire won the fourth point to lead the team to a win."
