Stack's Late Goal Leads Towson to Victory Over Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Friday after noon the Towson University women's lacrosse team took on Hofstra in New York. The Tigers came out with a 13-12 win.
 
Towson was led by Natalie Sulmonte with five goals, while Shelby Stack and Kerri Thornton each scored two goals apiece. Four other Tigers scored one goal each and four recorded assists.

Sami Chenoweth led the defense with three caused turnovers, she now has 54 on the season and set a new CAA record for single-season caused turnovers.
 
How it Happened
  • The Pride opened the first 39 seconds of the game with a goal and took a 2-0 lead at the 28:25 mark.
  • With 27:40 left in the half, Shelby Stack scored the first Tiger goal of the day and cut the lea dto one.
  • Hofstra scored once more with 21:22 to go, the last goal from the Pride in the next 19 minutes.
  • Towson opened a four-goal run at the 18:30 mark, with a goal by Kerri Thornton assisted by Annie Sachs, cutting the lead to 3-2.
  • Kerri Liucci scored next, three minutes later, assisted by her twin sister Nicole Liucci and tying the game for the first time.
  • Knotted up 3-3, Annie Sachs scored her 15th of the year taking the first Tiger lead of the day.
  • Two minutes later Kaitlin Thornton scored her first of the afternoon, putting the road team up by two with 9:54 left in the half.
  • Towson wouldn't see the back of the net for the next 13 minutes, but entered the half with a one-goal lead after Hofstra scored in the final two minutes of the first period.
  • The Pride struck first in the second period, tying the game for the second time, 5-5.
  • Kerri Thornton responded with her second of the day, assisted by Hannah Hobbes, and regaining the lead 6-5 with 26:04 to go.
  • The Tigers scored the next two goals, both from Natalie Sulmonte, taking an 8-5 lead with 21:17 to go. A Hofstra timeout followed, before the Pride scored four unanswered goals.
  • Hofstra took a 9-8 lead with 16:26 remaining.
  • Rayna Deltuva scored on a free position attempt to tie the game 9-9, but the Pride did not let up, scoring two more unanswered.
  • Sulmonte's third goal of the day came on a free position with 11:34 to go, cutting the lead to one and forcing a Hofstra timeout.
  • Two minutes later she scored again, tying the game 11-11 with under 10 to go.
  • Both teams were scoreless from the 9:57 mark to 3:09 when the Pride's Alyssa Parrella scored her seventh of the day.
  • With a one goal deficit, Sulmonte tallied her fifth of the day tying it up 12-12 with 2:05 to go.
  • Shelby Stack came in extra clutch on the next possession, scoring with just 60 seconds on the clock to take the one goal lead.
  • The Pride regained possession on the next draw, and received a free position attempt after drawing a foul, with 12 seconds left on the clock and missed the shot wide, trying once again to get the ball in the net and missed the second shot high as time ran out.
Beyond the Box
  • This was Natalie Sulmonte's seventh game of the year with at least three goals. Her eight shots on goal today are a season high.
  • Kiley Keating's 13 saves are the most since playing High Point on March 20 when she had 14.
  • Sami Chenoweth's three caused turnovers are the 12th time this season she has had at least three caused turnovers in a game.
  • Friday's win in the second straight game that Towson has had at least seven players score once.
  • This is the fourth straight game that both Thornton sisters have scored a goal.
