TOWSON, Md. – Sunday afternoon the Towson University women's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day and the final home game of the regular season with a 12-10 victory over Drexel.
The Tigers improve to 6-9 on the year and 4-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). Towson was led by
Annie Sachs with three goals and two from
Kerri Thornton. Next up for the team is a day trip to Delaware next Saturday for the regular season finale.
How it Happened
- Sophomore Hannah Hobbes started the day off with a goal at the 26:45 mark, her fourth goal of the year.
- Drexel's Karson Harris responded five minutes later, evening the score 1-1 before the Tigers scored two unanswered.
- Back and forth scoring continued with the Dragons tallying a goal at the 13:05 mark cutting the lead to 3-2.
- Towson scored two straight, one from Annie Sachs and another from Olivia Conti on a free position shot.
- Seven minutes passed before either team saw the back of the net, when Drexel's Colleen Grady scored with 2:05 to go in the half.
- Sachs struck once more at 1:54, recording her third of the day to lead the Tigers at the half. Towson entered the locker room with a three-goal advantage.
- Entering the second period, the Dragons scored first cutting the lead to two. Kerri Thornton responded three minutes later with her first goal of the day, extending the lead to 7-4.
- Both teams traded goals on the next five possessions, with 17:30 left the road team was within two once again.
- Towson led 9-7 before Drexel's Harris scored her third of the day, cutting the lead to one with 16:17 on the clock.
- Senior Natalie Sulmonte scored her first of the afternoon with 14:36 to go, putting the Tigers up by two, followed by a score from Coeli Love.
- The Dragons scored two minutes later, cutting the lead to two once again.
- Rayna Deltuva's goal with 9:18 left would seal the win for Towson, as the teams were scoreless for the next seven minutes. Drexel tallied one more with 1:58 left but would not gain possession of the ball again.
Beyond the Box
- With her goal today, Natalie Sulmonte has scored 44 goals this season. She is six away from tying her total last year of 50.
- Kerri Thorton's two goals today record the fifth consecutive game the rookie has scored, beginning on April 7 at James Madison.
- The three goals Annie Sachs scored today are the most since scoring five at Navy on February 23.
- Sami Chenoweth's four caused turnovers are the seventh time this season she has had at least four.
