TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University tennis team went undefeated on Sunday, taking wins over Drexel and Maryland Eastern Shore, improving to 10-11 on the year, 3-1 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play.
The Tigers host four games in the next seven days, with one road game, to complete the regular season. Against the Dragons, Towson won 4-3 and against the Hawks the home team won 7-0.
Towson has won four straight games for the first time since the 2015-16 season when the Tigers won five straight to close out the regular season.
How it Happened
- In the first game of the day against Drexel, the Tigers won the doubles point after Yevgeniya Shusterman and Alexa Martinez pulled out the deciding set to clinch.
- In singles action Towson started with a 1-0 lead before losing three straight, as the Dragons took a 3-2 lead.
- Phoebe Collins 6-4 and 7-5 victory over her Drexel opponent tied the game 3-3 with Themis Haliou up left in singles play.
- Haliou took the first set in a 6-4 win, before falling in the second 7-5. A 6-2 third set from Haliou clinched the win for Towson.
- Against UMES, the Tigers won doubles handily, with a shutout win from the team of Lucy Gloninger and Claire Bedi. Jessica Assenmacher and Amelia Lawson defeated their opponents 6-3 and the home team secured a 1-0 lead.
- As the Hawks only had five players, one singles game was a default giving Towson a 2-0 advantage.
- Bedi and Gloninger swept their singles opponents in each set. Martinez took her win 6-1 and 6-0.
- Mia Douglass earned her first win of the dual match season with 6-2 and 6-1 scores in singles.
