Tigers Take Down Villanova at Home

TOWSON, Md. - Tuesday afternoon the Towson University women's tennis team took down Villanova on its home court, a 4-3 victory. The Tigers move to 11-11 on the year and will face Delaware on Wednesday afternoon on the road.

How it Happened
  • Doubles action was intense with the first Tiger team falling. The freshmen team of Phoebe Collins and Themis Haliou took a 6-2 win, but the team in slot one fell in an intense, 7-5 final. 
  • Villanova took a 1-0 lead into singles play. 
  • The Wildcats won the first singles match. In the No. 2 spot, Yevgeniya Shusterman took down her opponent in three sets.The senior came back to win after falling 6-2 in the first set. 
  • Collins and Lucy Gloninger both took their opponents down in two sets, entering a tie-match situation with one single match to go.
  • Haliou won 6-4 in the first set before falling 4-6 in the second. Her third set ended in a 6-4 win, as she clinched the victory for the second time in three matches. 
The Tigers return to action tomorrow with a conference game in Newark, first serve is set for 3 p.m.
