SPARKS, Md. -- After the better part of a decade caring for student-athletes at Towson University, head athletic trainer Greg Penczek was announced as an athletic trainer for the US Senior Men's Lacrosse Team Tuesday afternoon.
Penczek will work closely with the senior men's lacrosse team as the Red, White and Blue gear up for the next Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup, hosted in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada from July 13-24, 2022.
In January, 2017, Penczek was honored with the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association (MAATA) Service Award, a prestigious honor that recognizes qualified MAATA members for their exceptional service and unique contributions to the athletic training profession. This is a district award, which reflects dedication to the Association and the field of athletic training on the district, state and local level.
Additionally in 2017, Penczek was honored with the Maryland Athletic Trainers' Association (MATA) Athletic Trainer Service Award and was the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine (ICSM) Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Year.
A two-time Salisbury University graduate, Penczek earned bachelor's degrees in physical education (1996) and athletic training (2001). The Parkville, Maryland native went on to earn his master's degree in kinesiology from Louisiana State University in 2004.
Prior to his 2012 arrival at Towson, Penczek spent time at nearby Stevenson University and Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Spring, North Carolina.
Joining Penczek on the 2022 US Senior Team medical staff will be Kelly Waicus, M.D., Michael Khair, M.D. and fellow athletic trainer Mandy Merritt.
