TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University baseball team (14-39, 7-17 CAA) sent its seniors off in style, belting five home runs en route to an 11-6 victory vs. Northeastern (26-27, 12-12 CAA) to finish the 2019 season.
All 11 runs were scored on the five home runs, hit by five different Tigers.
This was the final game for the Towson senior class of
John Cranston, Joe Enea, Tom Flacco, Trey Martinez, Richard Miller, Skyler Morris, Zach Piazza, Jay Sanford, Dean Stramara, David Tiskevics and
Gavin Weyman.
Key Stats:
- Five of Towson's seven hits came by way of home run. 11 runs are the most amount of runs scored by Towson in a single game this year.
- Noah Cabrera, Richard Miller, Zach Piazza, Brad Powers and Jack Rotteveel all homered for Towson. Cabrera, Powers and Rotteveel all had three RBI for the Tigers. Jay Sanford earned a single in his final at-bat for the Tigers, finishing 1-for-1, while Joe Enea got his first-ever at-bat for Towson.
- Senior Gavin Weyman (4-8) notched a victory in his final game, going 6.2 innings with four runs and seven strikeouts. John Cranston went scoreless in his final appearance for the Black & Gold while Dean Stramara pitched his final game at Schuerholz Park in relief.
- For Northeastern, Ian Fair finished 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and a walk. Kyle Murphy pitched three scoreless in his start, with the loss going to reliever Brian Rodriguez (1-3), allowing two runs in 1.1 innings.
How it Happened:
- Despite the first two innings being scoreless, Jay Sanford notched a single in the first inning in his final at-bat as a Tiger.
- Northeastern struck first in the top of the third with a two-run home run by Ian Fair to lead.
- Towson got the run back off another senior play as Richard Miller crushed a ball into deep right for a solo home run, cutting the deficit in half.
- In the top of the fifth with first and third and two out, a hard ground ball bounced oddly in the grass and got into right field, bringing in a run and making it 3-1 Huskies.
- The Tigers roared ahead in the bottom of the fifth, with Jack Rotteveel on third and Javon Fields on first. With a new pitcher in for the Huskies, Noah Cabrera took the first pitch and annihilated the ball for a three-run home run to left, giving Towson a 4-3 advantage.
- After Northeastern tied the game in the top of the sixth, Zach Piazza blasted a ball over the left field fence for a solo shot, pushing the Tigers back ahead 5-4.
- The seventh inning saw Towson take over the game. Despite a strikeout during a 15-pitch at-bat to Cabrera, Brad Powers followed with a three-run home run to right to send Towson up by four. Later in the inning, Towson got two runners on with two out. Rotteveel hit his second home run of the series, tagging a ball over the left-center wall to make it 11-4 Towson.
- Northeastern attempted a late rally, scoring two runs in the ninth, but the combination of Dean Stramara and Connor Coyle held the lead for the 11-6 Towson victory.

- Towson held its Senior Day during pregame, honoring the careers of all Tigers playing their final game today.
- Noah Cabrera was hit by a pitch for the 14th time this season, tying for ninth all-time in Towson single season history.
