TOWSON, Md. - Despite an early lead, the Towson University women's soccer team fell to Old Dominion 4-1 on opening day at Tiger Soccer Complex.
Towson (0-1-0) got its first goal of the season from sophomore
Jenna Blank, giving the Tigers an early 1-0 lead at the updated complex.
ODU (1-0-0) tied the game at 1-1 in the first half, but three more goals from different Monarchs helped them to seal the deal.
How it Happened
- Junior goalkeeper Hannah Warner had her first career save in the early minutes of the first half after a shot by ODU's Talia Tapper.
- At the 13:37 mark, Blank scored assisted by freshman Phoebe Canoles to give Towson the 1-0 lead.
- The game went back and forth then ODU's Cami Johnstone passed the ball to Tapper who scored with eight minutes left in the first half.
- The second half began with a high shot by the Monarchs Maya Palmer and a blocked shot by Warner all within ten minutes of the half.
- After a corner kick by ODU, Riley Kennett scored the second goal, giving the Monarchs a 2-1 lead.
- Canoles tried to tie the game but her shot went wide right at the 71 minute mark.
- A double assist by Erica Carpenter and Loes Van Loon to Amanda Nhek down in the corner gave the Monarchs a 3-1 lead.
- With five minutes left in the game, Indiah Hunter scored the final goal for ODU.
