Volleyball Sweeps Seton Hall in Day's First Match

BALTIMORE -- In the first of two matches on Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House, the Towson University women's volleyball team swept Seton Hall University behind set scores of 25-15, 26-24, 25-22.

Towson (2-0) got double-digit kills from sophomore Emily Jarome and senior Olivia Finckel, who finished with 12 and 10, respectively. Senior Marrisa Wonders hoisted 36 assists as Towson finished with eight team kills.

Seton Hall (0-3) was paced by eight kills from Haylee Gasser. The Pirates split setting duties with Grace Rosenberg putting up 14 assists while Maggie Cvelbar had a dozen.

How it Happened
  • Towson went up 4-3 in a back-and-forth early first set before the Tigers reeled off a 3-0 run for a 7-4 advantage.
  • The Tigers went on another small run, this time a 4-2 burst for an 11-7 lead, behind two attack errors for the Pirates.
  • A 5-1 spurt for Towson gave the Tigers a 16-9. Towson later extended its lead to 23-14 before winning the frame 25-15 after scoring the final two points.
  • The Tigers ripped open the second set with a 5-0 lead, all with Wonders on the service line. After back-and-forth action in the middle of the second set, Seton Hall pulled back to tie the frame at 17-17. The Pirates later extended the advantage to 23-21 before the Tigers ended things on a 5-1 run with two decisive kills from Jarome for a 26-24 win.
  • Towson jumped out to a 4-2 advantage in the third set before reeling off four-straight points to double the lead at 8-4. A 5-1 run several points later increased Towson's lead to 13-7 and later 16-10, aided by a Jarome ace.
  • The Pirates clawed back and trimmed the lead down to 21-19 in favor of the Tigers. Again, Jarome had the final two Tiger points of the set for a 25-22 set win and Towson's second-straight sweep at the Morgan State Invitational.

Behind the Numbers
  • The Tigers hit .250 in the match, including a .292 in the first set.
  • Towson finished with 42 digs, paced by nine from libero Camryn Allen. Jarome chipped in eight while rookie defensive specialist Aisa Goins had seven.
  • Lydia Weirs led the Tigers at the net with five block assists with Annie Ertz close behind with three aided stops.
  • Jarome and Ally Townsend dropped in Towson's two service aces.

Up Next for Towson
  • The Tigers conclude the Morgan State Invitational at 6 p.m. on Saturday from the Lady Bears' Hill Field House.
