COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Towson University tennis team opened fall action on Friday at the Bedford Cup hosted by the University of Maryland.
How it Happened
- The first day of action saw play in both singles and doubles.
- Towson saw a singles win from Sarah Pospischill who defeated Loyola's Julia Thompson 6-0, 6-0. Tomorrow the freshman will play Abby Decker, also a Greyhound, to open her singles play.
- Also in singles, Lauryn Jacobs won by default over Georgetown. She will face Brooke Santoriello from Loyola tomorrow.
- Shuyler Tose fell to Greyhound Genevieve Wurtz 6-2, 6-2 and is set to play the winner of Lauryn Jacobs' match against Santoriello.
- Themis Haliou took her Maryland opponent to three sets. After falling 6-1 in the first, Haliou defeated Eva Alexandra 6-0 in the second set. The pair went far in the third as Alexandra took a 10-5 win.
- Alexa Martinez fell to Georgetown's Agata Mikos in singles. Tomorrow she will see the winner of a match between two GW players.
- In doubles, Jessica Assenmacher and Sarah Pospischill took down a Georgetown pair 6-1. Tomorrow in the doubles flight they will play a duo from VCU.
- Also in doubles, Elessa Jacobs and Lauryn Jacobs defeated two from Virginia Tech 6-3 before falling to a duo from the home team 6-2.
- Phoebe Collins and Amelia Lawson took a doubles win over George Washington 6-2. The two will play Loyola tomorrow.
