COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Sunday afternoon the Towson University field hockey team fell to American.
The Tigers were led by
Samantha Aljets with a shot on goal and
Tess Okkerse with 13 saves. Towson falls to 0-5 on the year and will return home for a Friday contest against La Salle.
How it Happened
- American started with a goal in the sixth minute and continued offensively dominating.
- Freshman Samantha Aljets saw a breakaway opportunity in the first quarter and got a shot on goal that was saved.
- The Eagles scored three more goals in the second period and took a 4-0 lead into halftime.
- At the half, Towson had one shot and one corner to American's 10 shots and seven corners.
- Eight minutes into the third quarter, the Eagles scored once again extending the lead to five.
- In the 42nd minute, Noor Coenen scored off a penalty corner and took a 6-0 lead to end the third period.
- Towson held the Eagles scoreless for the opening eight minutes of the fourth quarter before Coenen went for a shot and was fouled earning a penalty stroke.
- The American junior scored and extended the lead to 7-0.
Beyond the Box
- Tess Okkerse saw her first double-digit save effort with 13 saves. It is her career high.
- Sophomore Kasey Bubel recorded her second defensive save of the year.
- Freshman Jessica Krewson saw her first collegiate minutes as she entered the game in the fourth period.

Towson returns home on Friday to play at 2 p.m. before traveling to LIU for a Sunday matchup in Brookville, New York.
