Parkinson Scores Two In Towson's First Victory at TU Field Hockey Complex

BOX SCORE TOWSON, Md.- Friday afternoon the Towson University field hockey took a 3-1 win over La Salle at home. This marks the first win at the TU Field Hockey Complex since it's opening last October.

Sophomore Katy Parkinson led the Tigers with two goals, both assisted by freshman Samantha Aljets.

Towson moves to 1-5 on the season and travels to LIU for a Sunday afternoon matchup.

How it Happened
  • The first half was uneventful with five shots on goal from the Explorers and two from the home team, none on goal.
  • In the opening 10 minutes of the third period, Towson controlled possession and a foul gave the Tigers a corner eight minutes into the quarter.
  • Katy Parkinson input the ball to sophomore Gretchen Alderfer who set up Beira Ho to the right of her.
  • Ho took a shot past four La Salle players including the goalkeeper and hit the left back of the goal.
  • Just 20 seconds later, Kasey Bubel was left of the goal by the sideline and passed it to Samantha Aljets in front of the goal.
  • Aljets connected with Parkinson who was one foot from the goal line and tipped it in, taking a 2-0 lead in the 39th minute.
  • Towson took a 2-0 lead into the fourth quarter, and held on defensively in the third only allowing one shot from La Salle.
  • In the 45th minute, the Tigers set up for another corner, input by Parkinson.
  • After Jessica von Schmidt-Pauli received the ball, she passed to Aljets who found Parkinson on the left of the goal once again.
  • Seven minutes later the Explorers found an opportunity with space to score and cut the lead.
  • Neither team saw the back of the net in the final seven minutes of action as the Tigers celebrated on the sideline the first win of the season.
Behind the Numbers
  • Katy Parkinson now leads the team in goals with three on the season.
  • Samantha Aljets continues to lead the Tigers in assists with four, the rookie has the most points out of newcomers on the roster with six.
  • Tess Okkerse came up with one save while Camille Potillo earns her first win at Towson.
Quotable
"Not just scoring once but scoring three times, it was really fun to watch them experience those moments," said head coach E.A. Jackson. "This week as a team they really grew together we had to have some team talks after our road trip and I think coming off of that today it showed that they can all contribute in their own way. They all step up when the team needs them too and the sideline energy was super infectious and they were really supporting what was going on on the field. We have some good film to watch and it's time to prepare for Sunday."

Next Up
The Tigers travel to LIU for Sunday's game before returning home for a pair next weekend against Rider and Bucknell.
