BOONE, N.C.- The Towson University field hockey team lost to Appalachian State in its season opener after four scoreless quarters saw the Mountaineers (1-0) breakthrough in overtime to defeat the Tigers (0-1) by a score of 1-0 on Friday evening.

• Entering overtime, Towson led the game in shots 7-3 and led 6-2 in penalty corners won. But App State took eight shots and won two corners in overtime compered to zero in either column for Towson.
• Riley Redding made three saves, all in overtime, in her first career start in goal for Towson.
