Field Hockey Ends Opening Weekend With Loss to Davidson

BOONE, N.C.- The Towson University field hockey team lost to Davidson 4-0 on Sunday to close out its first weekend of the 2026 regular season.
 
Key Stats
  • The Tigers ended the game with ten shots and four on target compared to 12 shots and seven on target.
  • Towson won seven corners against four from the Wildcats.
  • Josefina Sayal Aguirre and Else Wismans led Towson with two shots each. Sayal Aguirre, Ava McConnell, Lydia Bennett and Delfina Larripa all had shots on target.
  • Riley Redding receives the loss for Towson after allowing four goals and making three saves.
  • For Davidson: Lourdes Wolf, Matilda Collins, Emily Najarian and Ise Adams scored goals. Avery Foster earned the shutout win making four saves.
 
Key Situations
  • 1st Quarter: Towson created the first chance of the game within 90 seconds when Delfina Larripa's shot required a save from the Davidson goalie. However, it was Davidson who found the back of the net with four minutes left in the period to take a 1-0 lead.
  • 2nd Quarter: The Tigers won a pair of corners in the first 30 seconds of the quarter but failed to equalize with either chance. With three minutes left in the half Towson went down a player resulting in a Wildcat chance that was saved by Riley Redding keeping the deficit at one entering halftime.
  • 3rd Quarter: Davidson scored twice in the first ten minutes of the period; a penalty stroke goal made it 2-0 before Emily Najarian made it three for the Wildcats four minutes later. Towson earned four corners and took six shots in the final five minutes of the quarter but couldn't get on the board.
  • 4th Quarter: The Wildcats scored a fourth in the first two minutes of the period to seal a 4-0 defeat for the Tigers.
 
Next Game
  • The Tigers now look forward to the home opener on Friday, October 4. Towson will host Georgetown at 2 p.m. at the TU Field Hockey Complex.
