Field Hockey Earns a Comeback Win over Georgetown

TOWSON, Md. - The Towson University field hockey team defeated Georgetown 3-1 in its home opener to improve to 1-2 on the young season. The Tigers responded to a first quarter Hoya goal by scoring three unanswered with two coming from Ava McConnell earn Towson's first win of the season.

  • 1st Quarter: The first frame started quietly but picked up in the final few minutes leading to a Towson back pass being intercepted by the Hoyas right in front of the Tiger's goal leading to Colleen Maloney opening the scoring right before the end of the quarter.
  • 2nd Quarter: Towson came out firing in the second quarter and halfway through Gianna Tripodi sent a ball into the top of the circle towards Ava McConnell who deflected the ball into the net to tie the game at one.

  • 4th Quarter: Georgetown picked up a yellow card seven minutes into the frame, two minutes later Ella Jefferson received the ball in the bottom corner of the Hoya circle, turned towards goal, and flicked the ball in the air toward McConnell who slammed home her second of the game to seal a 3-1 Tiger win.
