BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - In the first series meeting between the Towson University field hockey team and Long Island University, the Tigers took a 2-3 loss.
Towson scored the first two goals before the Sharks scored three unanswered to seal the win. The Tigers (1-6) saw goals from freshmen
Mackenzie Tillman and
Samantha Aljets.
How it Happened
- The first period was full of possession changes and strong defense, both teams got one shot in the quarter.
- A flurry of shots and corners for the home team started the second quarter.Â
- Towson saw an opportunity and went in for the attack drawing a penalty corner in the 20th minute of play.
- Sophomore Katy Parkinson inserted the corner and Samantha Aljets found connection with Mackenzie Tillman.
- Tillman tapped the ball in from the left side to get the Tigers on the board.
- Not even two minutes later, Towson had another chance with a strong offensive possession creating room for another goal.
- Aljets found the space at the top of the arc and her shot went straight in the goal.
- The Tigers held the 2-0 lead into the halftime.
- LIU wasted no time, scoring 33 seconds into the third quarter.
- Towson's defense held out, keeping the Sharks at bay until another goal came in the 37th minute from a penalty corner.
- To close out the third quarter the home team struck again, in the 42nd minute and took a 3-2 lead.
- Penalty corners went back and forth in the opening minutes of the fourth but the Tigers faced an LIU defense allowing no opportunities.
- In the final seconds of the game, Towson had four penalty corners.
- Two shots were taken, one saved and another deflected, as time ran out and the Sharks continued to defend their home turf at the net.
Beyond the Box
- Samantha Aljets' goal puts her at two for the season and her assist is her fifth of the year. Through seven games the rookie has more assists than any single player recorded last season.
- Mackenzie Tillman scored her first collegiate goal to get the offense started today.
- This is Towson's third game of the year with at least two goals. In tjhe 2018 season the Tigers had five games with two or more goals.
