Field Hockey Falls to Bucknell in Sunday Matinee

TOWSON, Md. - Freshman goalkeeper Tess Okkerse had a standout performance in Sunday's 3-0 loss to Bucknell for the Towson University field hockey team.

The Gouda, Netherlands native came up with eight saves, including a couple of sharp stops to keep the Bison from tacking onto the score.

Towson falls to 1-8 on the year before heading to Houston this week to face Miami (Ohio) on Thursday night.

How it Happened
  • The opening minutes of play were slow as the road team got its footing. Before coming to the TU Field Hockey Complex, the Bison played American on Saturday.
  • In the 12th minute sophomore Kathryn Parkinson set up the Tigers for their first corner of the day and had an opportunity space wise, but a Bucknell interception turned into a goal for the Bison.
  • Defensively the home team held on, with four saves from Okkerse in the first half as Bucknell took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
  • The Bison wasted no time, scoring four minutes into the third period off a corner to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Corners continued to favor the road team as the third goal came in the final five minutes of the period, off a penalty corner as well.
  • Throughout the final 10 minutes Bucknell continued to hold possession, taking five corners.
  • Towson saw a corner in the 55th minute from Jessica von Schmidt-Pauli that the Bison cleared.
Beyond the Box
  • Okkerse's eight saves tally her fourth game this year with eight or more stops.
  • Towson's four shots are the fifth time this season with four or more shots. With three shots on goal, today is the first game since playing Colgate that the Tigers have forced a goalie to make at least three saves.
Up Next
