Beachley Scores Two in Overtime Loss at Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – A back-and-forth road game on Sunday ended in an overtime loss for the Towson University field hockey team.
 
Georgia Beachley led the Tigers with two goals in the 4-3 loss to Colgate. This was the first meeting between Towson and Colgate and the road team came close to securing the win but the Raiders found the back of the net in the first minute of overtime and took the victory.
 
How it Happened
  • The first period was low on action with four total shots, one from the Tigers and three from Colgate and started the second quarter with a score tied 0-0.
  • Towson sophomore Kathryn Parkinson scored the first goal of the afternoon in the second.
  • The Tigers had set up for a penalty corner, where Paige Reese got a shot off. Reese's attempt was saved and Beira Ho was there to recover the ricocheted ball.
  • Ho passed to Parkinson who was in close range and scored in the left corner of the goal, taking the 1-0 lead.
  • Towson held on to the advantage into halftime and scored the first goal of the second half.
  • Freshmen Samantha Aljets and Georgia Beachley connected for the Tigers' second goal at the 35-minute mark.
  • Four minutes later, the Raiders got on the board and opened a three-goal streak.
  • Colgate tied the game up with just over 10 minutes remaining on the clock, outshooting the Tigers 9-3 in the fourth quarter.
  • In the 57th minute, Raiders' Nicole Salamone extended the lead 3-2 and put the pressure on with three minutes remaining on the clock.
  • Rookies Aljets and Beachley connected again just 39 seconds later and tied the game up at 57:48.
  • Neither team saw an offensive stat in the remaining two minutes and 12 seconds, forcing overtime.
  • Starting extra time, the home team earned a corner in which Tess Okkerse came up with two big saves but Taylor Cassamasa found the space and scored.
  • Colgate secured the win 48 seconds into overtime.
Behind the Numbers
  • Georgia Beachley's two goals included her first collegiate goal. She now leads the Tigers offensively with two goals and one assist on the season.
  • Samantha Aljets recorded her first assists of the year and her career, the rookie leads the team in helpers.
  • Freshman goalkeeper Tess Okkerse recorded a career-high seven saves today.
  • Several players saw their first start of the season. Sophia Holley, Melissa McGlothlin, Dominique Nelson, Mackenzie Tillman and Jessica von Schmidt-Pauli saw their first starts of the year, for Holley, McGlothlin, Nelson and Tillman it was their first collegiate start.
  • In the first half the Tigers outshot Colgate 7-5, but the second half was opposite with 12 shots from the Raiders and five from Towson.
  • Towson held the advantage in corners as well, 6-4 through three quarters, but Colgate had a 4-1 corner lead in the fourth to help tie the game.
