Towson Baseball Downed in Game Two at Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. – A game that started as a pitching duel did not go the Towson University baseball team's way as it fell at Old Dominion 5-0 in game two of the weekend series on Saturday afternoon.

Towson (0-2) and Old Dominion (2-0) saw its starters go scoreless in the opening four innings as Nick Ramanjulu (0-1) and Ryne Moore (1-0) pitched well to start.  ODU broke the ice with three runs in the fifth and led the rest of the way despite the Towson pitching staff holding its opponent to five hits.

Key Stats:
  • Ryan Terrents earned a single to right in his first collegiate at-bat, finishing 1-for-4.  Dirk Masters got his first hit of the young season, going 1-for-3.
  • On the mound, Nick Ramanjulu began the game with four scoreless innings, finishing with three runs, just two earned, in 4.2 innings, striking out five.  Matt Watters finished the fifth with an out, with Teddy Blumenauer going the next three frames, allowing two unearned runs.
  • For Old Dominion, Ryan Teschko went 1-for-3 with a two-run double, a walk and a run scored.  Starter Ryne Moore pitched 5.2 scoreless innings with five strikeouts in the victory.
How it Happened:
  • The game started as a pitching duel.  With a leadoff hit by Ryan Terrents and Nick Brown reaching on an error, Towson got first and third with two out in the top of the second but could not score.  Nick Ramanjulu went through the first three innings scoreless, including four strikeouts, finishing the bottom of the third with two Ks and Burke Camper catching a runner trying to steal third.
  • The joust continued as Ramanjulu earned a scoreless fourth, but ODU got on the board in the fifth with a two-run double by Ryan Teschko, followed by a run scoring on an error, to make it 3-0 Monarchs.
  • Towson threatened in the top of the sixth, putting two on with one out on a Dirk Masters single and Noah Cabrera being hit by a pitch.  ODU struck out the next two batters to end the frame.
  • Teddy Blumenauer entered and had a perfect sixth inning in his Towson debut.  ODU added two more runs, each unearned, in the seventh to lead 5-0.  Towson did not get on the scoreboard and fell 5-0 to the Monarchs.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Ryan Terrents is the third Tiger this year to hit safely on his first at-bat in a Towson uniform this season.  Burke Campber and Reid Zitzelberg achieved the same feat yesterday.
Next Game:
Towson and Old Dominion square off one last time tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Norfolk.
