Towson Baseball Falls in Series Finale at Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. – The Towson University baseball team wrapped up its opening weekend with an 11-0 defeat at Old Dominion.

Four Towson (0-3) players hit safely in the game as Old Dominion (3-0) used a trio of multi-run innings to get the victory.

Key Stats:
  • Jacob Terao reached base three of four times at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.  Colin Conroy was 1-for-3 with a walk plus had several good defensive plays at shortstop.
  • The loss went to starter Tyler Russo (0-1), who had four runs, just three earned, in three innings pitched.  Matt Watters and Cam Clark each had scoreless relief appearances, going a third and two-thirds respectively.
  • For ODU, Zach Coldsnow batted 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.  The victory was earned by Nick Pantos (1-0), throwing seven scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts.
How it Happened:
  • ODU got on the board first with Kyle Battle leading off with a triple, then Matt Burch bringing him on an RBI ground out as the Monarchs led 1-0 after one.
  • The bottom of the third, ODU started with first and second with nobody out.  Tyler Russo kept ODU down with three swinging strikeouts in four batters to not allow a run, keeping the score at 1-0.  The following half-inning, Towson threatened with back-to-back singles from Colin Conroy and Burke Camper to eventually have second and third and one out, but ODU forced two ground outs to keep Towson off the scoreboard.
  • The home team picked up three runs in the bottom of the fifth, one off a passed ball and another off a two-run single by Burch, to go up 4-0.
  • Though Kody Reeser held ODU scoreless in the sixth, ODU got three more in the seventh and another fourth in the eighth.  ODU won the game 11-0.
Inside the Numbers: Next Game:
Towson heads to North Carolina next weekend for a three-game set at High Point.  First game is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 21st at 4 p.m.
