Road Trip to Hofstra and Northeastern Ahead for Women's Basketball This Weekend

TOWSON, Md. The penultimate road trip of the regular season is this weekend for the Towson University women's basketball team.
 
The Tigers travel to face Hofstra on Friday night and Northeastern on Sunday afternoon, both games will be on FloSports streaming and live stats links can be found on the women's basketball schedule page on TowsonTigers.com.
 
Last Time Out
Towson is coming off a two-game win weekend over UNCW and Charleston at home. The Tigers were led by Kionna Jeter on Friday night against the Seahawks with a double-double and paced by Nukiya Mayo on Sunday against the Cougars, another double-double. Sunday saw three Tigers in double figures with 22 points from Mayo and 19 from both Jeter and Q. Murray. Towson's defeat of UNCW and Charleston were the first sweeps over a conference opponent this season.
 
Scouting the Tigers
Kionna Jeter continues to lead the Tiger offense with 18.7 points per game. Nukiya Mayo is averaging 15.7 per night while Q. Murray averages 11.4. Mayo leads the team with 7.9 rebounds per game while Murray paces the offense in assists with an average of five. Towson enters the week 12-11 overall with a 7-5 mark in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play. The Tigers are currently in fourth place in the CAA and on a two-game winning streak.
 
Scouting the Pride
Hofstra is currently last in conference standings and has not won a game since nonconference action. Leading the Pride is Jaylen Hines with 10.9 points per game and two players are averaging nine points per game. Hines paces Hofstra on the glass with 8.4 rebounds per game while Sorelle Ineza averages 2.9 assists per night. Hofstra is coming off a 71-42 loss to William & Mary on the road on Sunday. The Pride only have wins over Hartford, Morgan State and Campbell.
 
The Hofstra Series
The series between Towson and Hofstra is tied, 35-35. The Tigers have won the last four meetings dating back to January of 2019. Last season the teams met three times including a game in the semifinal of the CAA Championship and Towson was victorious in each. On Jan. 26 Towson defeated the Pride 84-71 at home.
 
Scouting Northeastern
The Huskies are on similar pace as Towson, 11-13 overall and 7-6 in conference play. Entering the weekend Northeastern is tied for fifth in the CAA standings with Elon. Before facing the Tigers on Sunday, Northeastern will host James Madison on Friday night. The Huskies are led by Alexis Hill with 13.1 points per game and Stella Clark with 11.9. Hill leads Northeastern in rebounds with 6.4 per game and is averaging 1.3 blocks per night. The Huskies have lost three of their last four, dropping games against Delaware, Drexel and William & Mary before topping Elon on Sunday, 69-45.

The Northeastern Series
The series against Northeastern is also currently tied, 20-20. The last four games have been split with two Towson wins and two Northeastern wins. In January the Tigers came out on top 81-68, led by Mayo with 21 points and 10 rebounds. The Huskies have won three of the last five meetings dating back to 2017.
 
Jeter Named CAA Player of the Week, Feb. 17
Kionna Jeter collected her third CAA Player of the Week honor this season after scoring her 1,000th point on Sunday against Charleston. Over the weekend the Spartanburg, South Carolina native scored 39 points, grabbed 18 rebounds, had six assists and five steals. She paced the Tigers against UNCW with 20 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 9-of-21 from the field.
 
Tigers in CAA Stats
Kionna Jeter is currently second in the CAA in scoring (18.6 ppg) while Nukiya Mayo holds sixth (15.5) the duo are averaging 34.1 points per game together, the second-best scoring partners in the conference. The scoring tandem also appear in the rebounding top-10, Mayo fifth (7.9 rpg) and Jeter seventh (7.0 rpg). Q. Murray is second in the conference in assists (4.9 per game) and is first in assist/turnover ratio (2.1). Mayo is ranked for a third time in blocked shots, she is second in the CAA (1.5 bpg) and Ryan Holder is third (1.4 bpg).Jeter leads the league in steals (3.2 spg).
 
Jeter Ranked 29th Nationally in Points Per Game
Last season Kionna Jeter reached a peak in the top-10 of scorers nationally. She is currently 29th in points per game (18.7) as of Feb. 20. She is also 12th in steals per game (3.09 avg.) and 18th in steals (71). Q. Murray holds it down on the assist category, she is currently 43rd in assists per game (5.0), 42nd in assist/turnover ratio (2.07) and 56th in assists (114). Nukiya Mayo is currently 44th nationally in double-doubles with nine this season.

On Feb. 14 the Tigers hosted their annual Pink Game. This year Towson is partnering with Play4Kay to support cancer survivors and those battling cancer. Tigers In The Community
The Towson University athletics department deems community service as one of its highest priorities to give back to the Greater Baltimore area. For the seventh consecutive year, the department exceeded 10,000 hours of community service to the Greater Baltimore region, finishing with 11,162 hours of community service in the 2018-19 academic season. Towson ranked No. 1 nationally for community service and won the 2018 National Championship for Community Service through the Helper Helper NCAA Team Works Competition. Towson had a 97% participation rate, attended 118 community service opportunities and volunteered with 19 organizations. Towson won the 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award from Susan G. Komen of Maryland.
