Jeter Leads With 25,Towson Falls at Northeastern

BOSTON – Sunday's road contest at Northeastern turned into a full-court battle as Towson fell to the home team 66-63.

The Tigers were led by redshirt-junior Kionna Jeter with 25 points and LaKaitlin Wright with 11 rebounds. Nukiya Mayo dropped 12 points as well.

Towson moves to 13-12 on the season and 8-6 in conference play. Only four games remain in the regular season before the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship in March.

How it Happened
  • Shooting struggles plagued the Tigers in the first quarter as Northeastern rolled out to a 13-0 lead. Nukiya Mayo broke open the silence from Towson as she scored the first points of the afternoon for the road team.
  • Towson played catch-up the entire first period, ending the first 10 minutes down 16-10.
  • The Tigers outscored the Huskies 19-18 in the second quarter, finally taking the lead by one point 13 minutes into the game.
  • Freshman Maggie Sharp came off the bench in the second and scored seven points to push the road team.
  • With 4:53 to go in the half the Tigers led by two. Northeastern would regain the lead and take a five-point advantage into halftime.
  • Mayo struck first again in the second half, cutting the lead to three, before Stella Clark scored five unanswered points.
  • Northeastern took a 9-4 run, leading 43-35 with 2:59 remaining in the third.
  • A three-point play from Mayo put Towson in position to tie the game up before the quarter ended, but a Shannon Todd three would keep the Tigers out of reach once again.
  • At the end of the third Northeastern was leading by five once again.
  • The entire fourth quarter was led by the Huskies but the contest came down to the wire more than once.
  • A layup by Mayo put Towson within one point, trailing 51-50 with 8:19 to go.
  • Northeastern extended out to a seven-point advantage with just under six minutes remaining.
  • Starting at the 3:32 mark, the Tigers were within at least four points for the rest of the game. Q. Murray got to the basket with a layup cutting the lead to one and under three minutes to go.
  • Towson missed its next three shots and sent Clark to the line where she didn't miss.
  • With 19 seconds on the clock the Huskies led by four. Kionna Jeter dropped in a layup cutting it to a two-point game but more free throws from the home team put the game out of reach.
Beyond the Box
  • This is Kionna Jeter's 10th game with at least 20 points this season. The guard has recorded 24 games in double figures in the 2019-20 campaign.
  • Nukiya Mayo has now scored in double figures 22 times this year.
  • Junior LaKaitlin Wright recorded her second straight game with double figure rebounding as she led the Tigers with 11 boards.
  • Maggie Sharp had a career day with her best seven points and two rebounds.
Looking Ahead
Towson returns home for the final home stand of the regular season, hosting Delaware on Friday and Drexel on Sunday at SECU Arena. Sunday will be Towson's senior day honoring eight members of the graduating class.
