Tigers Fall at Elon in Regular Season Finale

ELON, N.C. – The regular season finale ended in a loss for the Towson University women's basketball team, 68-52 at Elon.
 
Q. Murray led the Tigers with 13 points while Kionna Jeter scored 12, and Nukiya Mayo dropped nine with 13 rebounds. Towson finishes the regular season 14-15 with a 9-9 mark in conference play.
 
Towson holds its spot as the No. 4 seed for next week's Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Basketball Championship presented by Sonabank.
 
How it Happened
  • Towson scored first taking a 3-0 advantage on a three-point bucket from Q. Murray, before Elon went on a 9-0 run to take the lead.
  • The Tigers responded with a 7-0 run to tie the game 11-11 with 2:55 to go in the first. At the end of one, Towson led 15-12.
  • Entering the second quarter, the Phoenix took the lead once again and held it before Towson tied it up 23-23 with 3:14 to go.
  • The final two minutes of the period were close as a pair of free throws from Shavonne Smith took a one-point lead. Elon score a three to take the lead into halftime, up 29-27.
  • In the third quarter, the home team started on a 6-0 run taking an eight-point lead. Towson cut into the deficit with a jumper from Smith with 7:36 on the clock.
  • The Phoenix then scored seven straight, taking a 13-point advantage with 5:06 to go in the third.
  • Elon led by double-figures for the rest of the quarter, up by 12 at the end of the period 51-39.
  • A 17-13 fourth quarter for the Phoenix sealed the win for the home team.
Beyond the Box
  • Nukiya Mayo had double-figure rebounds for her 11th time this season and 27th career appearance.
  • Q. Murray's 13 points recorded her 16th double-figure scoring game this season.
  • Kionna Jeter's 12 points are the 28th showing this season in double digits.
  • Mayo has now played 114 games as a Tiger, ranking eighth all-time in program history.
