PITTSBURGH – Towson University alum Jordan Dangerfield has been selected as the special teams captain of the 2020 Pittsburgh Steelers, announced by the team on Monday.
Dangerfield is one of five team captains for the 2020 Steelers and will be leading the Pittsburgh special teams unit. Captains are voted upon by the players. This is Dangerfield's first year as a team captain for Pittsburgh.
Dangerfield has competed in 46 career games for the Steelers, including 16 games in each of the past two seasons. He plays in the secondary and on special teams, having 36 career tackles.
A native of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, Dangerfield played three years at Towson from 2010-12, earning All-America and All-CAA recognition at defensive back in his final two years as a Tiger. He racked up 258 tackles with the Black & Gold, helping Towson win Colonial Athletic Association titles in 2011 and 2012.
Dangerfield was announced to the Steelers 53-man roster on Saturday. Pittsburgh begins the 2020 season on Monday, Sept. 14th at 7:10 p.m. against the New York Giants.
In 2019, Towson alumni Dangerfield and Tye Smith each played in the National Football League. Dangerfield competed on the Steelers while Smith played for the AFC runner-up Tennessee Titans. Smith is currently a member of the Titans' practice squad.
