Towson Athletics Completes Successful Semester in the Classroom

TOWSON, Md. -- A most unusual semester did not deter the success shared by Towson University athletics programs as the Fall 2020 Academic Reports have been confirmed.

Overall, the Towson University athletic department combined for a semester grade point average well over 3.0. The 19 varsity sports combined for a 3.189 GPA in Fall 2020, while the entire athletic department carries a 3.224 GPA.

For Fall 2020, the women's programs finished with a 3.353 GPA while the men's programs completed the semester with a 2.938. Cumulatively, the women's teams have a 3.372 GPA while the men have a 3.018.

During Fall 2020, five teams finished a 3.5 or better: women's volleyball (3.645), women's tennis (3.635), women's swimming and diving (3.591) field hockey (3.523) and women's golf (3.505). The top five cumulative GPAs are: women's volleyball (3.691), field hockey (3.595), women's tennis (3.527), women's golf (3.477) and softball (3.470). Men's golf had the highest Fall 2020 GPA among men's programs with a 3.411 and has the highest cumulative men's GPA at 3.390.

Over the 19 varsity programs, 17 improved their team GPA from Fall 2019, including 16 teams carrying a 3.00 or better, both for Fall 2020 and cumulatively.

Of the 504 student-athletes, 321 earned a 3.0 GPA or better, nearly two-thirds of the Towson Tigers. Of those 321, 194 finished with a 3.50 or higher, with 30 Tigers completing Fall 2020 with a 4.0 GPA.Ā
