Towson (3-13, 1-5)

Colgate (1-12, 0-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Towson controlled the opening quarter, attempting two corners and two shots in the first 3:00 of action. They followed up with one more corner and two shots in the next 2:00.
  • Tillman scored the first goal of the game in the ninth minute, to get the Tigers on the board early. Reese was credited with the assist.
  • The celebration was short-lived, as just :24 later, Colgate answered to tie the score at 1-1, off its first corner of the contest.
  • The second period was more balanced, as the Raiders saw the first action on offense with a pair of shots.
  • Following a corner and shot from Towson, the team kept control and it was Beachley who found the back of the net to give her team the 2-1 advantage. The junior put a high shot on goal from the top of the circle and after bouncing off and over the Colgate goalkeeper's head, found its way across the line.
  • After trading possessions for the remaining 5:00 of the first half, once again the Raiders answered with a score in the 29th minute. The goal was off another corner.
  • To start the second half, Colgate picked up where they left off, scoring its third goal of the contest just :37 into the third quarter. The goal came off a penalty stroke that followed a corner attempt.
  • 1:10 later, Reese got her stick on a deflected Sarah Hatfield shot to even the score for the Tigers, 3-3.
  • The rest of the quarter was controlled by the Raiders, as they attempted four penalty corners and a game-high nine shots.
  • In the 39th minute, Colgate was awarded their second stroke of the game but this time Vandam earned the stop to keep the score tied. The goalkeeper ended the 15:00 with a game-best five saves. Kasey Bubel and Beira Ho also added a defensive stop each in the period.
  • The Raiders put the ball right back in the Tigers' defensive zone to begin the final quarter. The opponent took two consecutive corners and cashed in on the latter to take the 4-3 edge.
  • Towson tried to knot the score back up but could not convert any of its three corners or four shots in the last moments of the quarter.

BEYOND THE BOX

  • Vandam ended the contest with seven total stops including some exception saves on her line. The graduate student also saw an unprecedented four penalty strokes over the weekend, saving one.
