TOWSON, Md. – Following the win over William & Mary in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) home opener, two Towson University women's soccer players earned CAA weekly honors, announced by the league on Monday.
Nia Christopher is the CAA Offensive Player of the Week while
Riley Melendez is the CAA Defensive Player of the Week.
Each Christopher and Melendez earn their second conference weekly honor of the season. Christopher formerly was the CAA Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6 while Melendez previously was the CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 23.
It is the first time since Mar. 8, 2021 when two Towson women's soccer players earned CAA weekly honors on the same day. On Mar. 8, 2021, Melendez was the CAA Defensive Player of the week while
Alexandra Rush was the CAA Rookie of the Week.
The duo was honored after Towson notched a 3-0 victory over William & Mary on Sunday afternoon to win the conference home opener. Christopher scored the game's first two goals in the 77
th and 81
st minutes led Towson to victory while Melendez notched seven saves in goal for the shutout victory, her fourth shutout of the year.
Towson returns to Tiger Field on Thursday, Oct. 7 to take on Northeastern at 3 p.m.
