Towson, Md. – The Towson University women's basketball team took down Delaware State on Monday night, 76-47, to improve to 6-1 on the 2021-22 season and 4-0 at home.
Aleah Nelson and Allie Kubek paced the team with 16 points apiece while Tarriyonna Gary and Ryann Evans also reached 11 points each.
Gary also contributed in other areas as well, setting career-highs with eight rebounds and six assists.

How it Happened
- Towson took an early 5-0 lead as Gary hit one from beyond the arc to get things going early in the period. Delaware State also went on to hit a three-point field goal to get on the board.
- Anissa Rivera followed up with five points, scoring on three consecutive possessions. The Tigers ended the first up by four, 20-16.
- In the middle 2:40 of the second period, the Tigers held Delaware State scoreless, netting seven in the span. Nelson led scoring in the second with seven points.
- The black & gold would go on to hold the Hornets to just seven points in the period, as the opposition shot 1-for-9 (11.1%) from the field.
- The third quarter got off to a slow start, as both teams combined for just 12 points at the 4:20 mark. The two teams also amassed seven fouls during the span.
- Out of the media timeout, Nelson injected some energy, with a block that turned into a Kubek bucket. She then came back down the court on the next possession to hit a big three-point field goal. The junior led the Tigers on their biggest run of the night with 15 points. Towson went into the final quarter with a 22-point edge.
- With 21 points, the fourth quarter proved to be the best of the night for Towson. Evans led the team with five points and four rebounds in just 5:05 played. The junior transfer hit her third three-point field goal of the night to end 3-for-3 from deep to set a new career-high.
- The Tigers ended their three-game homestand with a 76-47 victory.
Inside the Numbers
- With a 6-1 record, Towson is out to its best start since 2016-17 when the team also started with the same record.
- With six assists, Nelson has now led the Tigers in the stat in all seven games. She has also reached double-digit scoring in every outing this season. Gary and Kubek have too gotten to double figures in six of seven outings.
- All 11 Tigers that dressed on Monday night scored at least two points. This marks the third time this season the team has done so.
- With four Tigers in double-digit scoring against the Hornets, at least three players have cracked double figures in six of seven contests so far this season.
- Towson continued its strong defensive play with seven blocks and nine steals. Rivera and Rayne Tucker both led the team with two blocks each while Kubek, Nelson and Skye Williams amassed two steals apiece to pace their squad. The Tigers' defense also held the Hornets to just 2-for-8 (25.0%) from beyond the arc during the contest.
- Towson held Delaware State to just seven points in the second quarter, marking the sixth occasion this season an opposing team has scored less than 10 points in a single quarter.
Next Game
As the Tigers' three-game homestand comes to an end, the team will spend the first two weeks of December on the road. Towson will begin its road trip with East Carolina on Dec. 4 at 12 p.m. before traveling to UMass Lowell on Dec. 8 (3 p.m.) contest and American on Dec. 11 (2 p.m.).
