Washington, D.C. – The Towson University women's basketball team won its sixth straight contest at American on Saturday afternoon, 79-61, to end its three-game road trip.
Allie Kubek paced the team with 18 points while Anissa Rivera dropped a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double. Aleah Nelson (12) and Skye Williams (11) also ended in double-digits.
Rivera had a great game on defense as well, earning four steals and three blocks.

How it Happened
- Both teams came out fast, trading possessions early. Towson led 14-10 at the first media timeout and added seven more points before the end of the opening period. Three Tigers ended the first 10:00 with five points (Rivera, Nelson and Gary). Rivera also showed out on defense, earning three steals and two blocks in the span.
- The team picked up in the second where they ended in the first, continuing a 17-3 run over seven total minutes. They simultaneously held American to just 1-of-10 from the field.
- The Eagles rallied in the third, going on a nine-point run midway through the quarter. Towson kept them at bay though, going into the locker room with the 15-point edge and boasting seven unique scorers. Gary led the squad with eight points while Nelson added five helpers and both Evans and Rivera grabbed four rebounds, respectively.
- Kubek turned it on in the third, scoring on three consecutive possessions. She went on to go 5-for-5 from the field for 10 points before getting into foul trouble. Williams and Rivera led the way into the final quarter with 11 points each.
- Towson totaled 10 offensive rebounds in the final quarter to convert into 10 second chance points. The team ended with 43 total boards (19 offensive) to American's 26.
- River and Kubek combined 12 points in the fourth while Nelson added two to help solidify the win.
Inside the Numbers
- The 9-1 start is the best since the 2006-07 campaign when the team started off with a 10-1 record.
- The win also evened up the all-time series between the two schools, 9-9, and extended the Tigers win streak to four in a row over the Eagles.
- Kubek scored 16 of her game-high 18 points in the second half. When the sophomore is the high-scorer, the team is 4-0.
- As Towson owned the 39-24 edge at the half, the team remains undefeated when leading at halftime.
- Rivera's double-double on Saturday marks her third of the season to pace the team.
- For its third straight contest, Towson handed its opponent its first loss at home of the season as American was 3-0 at Bender Arena prior to Saturday. UMass Lowell (2-0) East Carolina (4-0) were also undefeated on their own courts before meeting the black & gold.
- With nine assists, Nelson has now led the Tigers in the stat in all nine games.
- As four Tigers reached double-digit scoring against the Eagles, at least three players have cracked double figures in nine of ten games so far this season. Nelson and Kubek have now also scored in double digits in nine of ten contests.
