CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Towson University baseball team and Western Carolina began Sunday with a pitching duel through five innings, but the Tigers fell to the Catamounts 5-1.
Towson (0-4) held WCU (4-0) to one run in the first five innings off the pitching of
Nick Ramanjulu and
Kody Reeser (0-1), but four unanswered by WCU (4-0) from the sixth-eighth innings made the difference.
Key Stats:
- Nick Brown reached base in all four plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks. Billy Godrick was 1-for-3 with a run scored, also being hit by a pitch.
- On the pitching end, Nick Ramanjulu went three innings in his start for a no-decision, allowing one run and fanning five. Kody Reeser had the loss with two innings thrown, a run charged, despite no hits, and a strikeout. The Towson pitching staff held WCU to four hits in the game.

How It Happened:
- WCU got on the board in the bottom of the first on an RBI ground out. Towson equalized in the next frame: the Tigers loaded the bases with no one out. Two batters later, a Matt Arceo ground out brought in Billy Godrick and tied the game at 1-1.
- Nick Ramanjulu and Kody Reeser held down the Catamounts through the first five innings to keep the game at a tie. In the sixth, back-to-back walks and a fielder's choice set up runners on the corners and one out. WCU scored a run on a sacrifice fly to go ahead 2-1.
- WCU got three more runs, all unearned, in the following two innings. Towson got the tying run on deck in the ninth with a Danny Becerra single and Javon Fields walk, but the Tigers did not score again and fell 5-1.
