Women's Basketball Travels Over the Border to Face Delaware

NEWARK, Del. – The top two CAA (Colonial Athletic Association) teams will faceoff this weekend for a pair of games as Towson women's basketball travels to take on Delaware. Both games will start at 1 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center and will be available to stream on FloHoops.com.  

LAST TIME OUT (Feb. 21) 
The Tigers came out on top against Drexel on Sunday, winning 77-62 to split the weekend series after falling 71-55 during the first game. Allie Kubek posted her third double-double of the season and registered career-highs with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Aleah Nelson led the offense with a career-best 23 points, five boards and game-high seven assists. LaKaitlin Wright and Shavonne Smith each contributed 10 points to round out double-digit scoring efforts for the Tigers. Wright also grabbed seven off the glass to help Towson reach a game total of 44 boards to the Dragons' 17. The Tigers controlled the game, leading for 34:25 of regulation.  

SCOUTING THE TIGERS 
The Tigers are currently in sole possession of second place in the CAA standings with an 12-5 (7-3 CAA) record. Towson has the fourth highest scoring offense in the country and first in the conference with 84.1 points per game. Kionna Jeter is ninth in the country and first in league play, scoring 23.4 points per game. Nelson also represents Towson in national standings, averaging 6.8 assists per game to rank sixth in the country and first in the conference. The sophomore guard is also seventh across all of Division I Basketball in total assists and first in the CAA with 115 total helpers. Shavonne Smith leads the CAA in field goal percentage, shooting 51.1 percent from the floor.  

THE DELAWARE SERIES
(Blue Hens lead 56-24)  
Delaware is Towson's closest conference opponent in terms of distance. The teams will meet for the 80th time this coming Saturday. The Blue Hens have won seven of the last 10 matchups. However, dating back to the beginning of 2019, Towson is 3-2 against Delaware including 2 wins on the road and a 59-49 CAA Quarterfinal victory in Newark in March 2019. 

LOOKING INTO THE BLUE HENS   
Delaware sits at the top of the conference with a 17-3 (14-2 CAA) mark on the season. The Blue Hens are coming off a series split against James Madison, winning the first game in overtime 94-88 but falling 65-62 in the second. Delaware is led by junior forward/guard Jasmine Dickey who is averaging 23.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. She is also averaging 41.7 percent shooting from the field and 30.3 percent from beyond the arc. Redshirt junior forward Ty Battle leads the conference and is tied for fourth nationally with 14 double-doubles. She is averaging 12.2 points per game along with 11.1 boards per contest.  

LAST TIME AGAINST DELAWARE  
The Tigers earned the 76-66 win in the extremely close contest the last time they met the Blue Hens in Feb. 2020. The lead changed four times in the second quarter and the team went into the locker room with the scored knotted at 27. Towson pulled away in the final 10:00 of the fourth quarter with a 19-point advantage and stayed on top to end the contest. Four Tigers scored in double-digits, including Jeter with 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Wright also added 14 points, five boards, two steals and a block.  
 
JETER MOVES TO FOURTH 
Kionna Jeter is currently at fourth overall on the Towson University women's basketball all-time scoring list. The Spartanburg, S.C. native has 1,473 career points. Next on the list is Danielle Barry with 1,555 points.
