TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University softball team took two games from La Salle Saturday afternoon inside Tiger Softball Stadium.
The Tigers (6-3) won game one 14-8 than won game two 9-1 over the Explorers (0-2). Game two ended in the bottom of the fifth due to the eight-run rule.
Mackenzie Lake hit two home runs, one in each game.
How it Happened – Game 1
- The Explorers took an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first.
- The Tigers cut into the lead in the bottom of the first after a inside the park homerun by Lake. (4-1)
- La Salle added three more runs in the top of the second to take a 7-1 lead over the Tigers.
- Then the Explorers added one more run in the top of the third to take an 8-1 lead.
- It was all Tigers after that coming back huge to take the lead.
- First in the bottom of the third the Tigers added seven runs to bring the game within one. (8-7)
- Lake got the bats hot for the Tigers reaching base first on a single. Then, Nicole Kidwiler had a two run double making the score 8-3. Lindsey Toneygay had a double to center field and then an error by La Salle helped Chloe Poulich reach base scoring two runners making the score 8-5. Lauren Ringhiser had a triple scoring Poulich to end the inning.
- Then Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the fifth after scoring five runs on four hits. Cali Christopher had a single, Lake had a two run double, Kidwiler had a single and Toneygay had a two run single to help the Tigers.
- The Tigers would score one more run in the bottom of the sixth on a RBI double by Gracyn Houmis to bring the final score to 14-8.
Inside the Numbers
- Six Tigers had doubles, Lake had two.
- Ringhiser had her first triple of the season.
- Melissa Abrahamian threw 3 innings with three strikeouts.
- Madeline Harris moves to 2-0 this season after pitching 4 innings with four strikeouts.
How it Happened – Game 2
- The Tigers got things rolling early in game two scoring four runs on five hits to take an early 4-0 lead over the Explorers including the Lake home run. Ringhiser had her second triple of the weekend to also score two runners.
- La Salle cut into the lead after a solo home run by Tessa Dodson. (4-1)
- The Tigers added to the lead with four more runs in the bottom of the second to take an 8-1 lead. Poulich had a RBI triple and Houmis added to the stat line with a two run double.
- Towson scored one more run in the bottom of the fourth with a RBI single by Jess Dabreo.
- Jackson got the last out of the game with a groundout to the catcher.
Inside the Numbers – Game 2
- Two Tigers had triples including Ringhiser with her second on the weekend.
- Jackson threw the entire game with two strikeouts and moves to 2-0 this season.
Quotable- Head Coach Lisa Costello
"I thought we did a nice job at the plate", said Costello. "They worked hard this week in BP and it was nice to see the results today. Harris did a great job in relief. So important for our pitchers coming out of the bullpen to be able to calm things down and have a few shut down innings."
"We have to continue to work tomorrow. LaSalle has a bunch of good ball players."
