TOWSON, Md.—The Towson University softball team faced the Villanova Wildcats for a midweek doubleheader inside Tiger Softball Stadium.
Villanova took the first game with the score of 5-2 and won the second game 11-2.
Mackenzie Lake hit her fourth homerun of the season for the Tigers (7-4) in the first game. Villanova (7-7) had two homeruns in the first game.
How it Happened- Game 1
- The first game was tied 0-0 until the top of the third inning where the Wildcats Dani Dabroski scored off of a single from Megan Kern.
- The Tigers responded strongly in the bottom of the third tying the game with a single from Chloe Poulich bringing Julia Jackson home to score. (1-1)
- The Wildcats regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning with a double from Julia DaCosta and a scored run from Sydney Hayes.
- The Wildcats extended their lead from 2-1 to 4-1 in the top of the sixth with a homerun from DaCosta.
- Their lead grew with a homerun from Kern (5-1) in the top of the seventh.
- Mac Lake took matters into her hands and hit an amazing homerun in the bottom of the 7th bringing the game to its final score of 5-2.
Behind the Numbers
- Lake hit her fourth home run of the season.
- Madyson Peters had a double for the Tigers.
- Julia Jackson is now 3-2 after throwing 5.1 innings with three strikeouts.
- Madeline Harris pitched 1.2 innings with one strikeout.
How it Happened – Game 2
- The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second.
- Villanova then scored four unanswered in the top of third to take a 4-0 lead.
- After the Wildcats added two more runs in the top of the sixth, the Tigers cut into their lead after a single to centerfield by Chloe Poulich got things rolling. Her single got all the runners on base to advance including scoring Lake to bring the score to 6-1.
- Gracyn Houmis had a sacrifice fly scoring Lauren Civetti to end the inning with a 6-2 score.
- The Wildcats then scored four more in the top of the after Paige Rauch hit a three run triple to right field. She then scored on a wild pitch.
Behind the Numbers – Game 2
- Melissa Abrahamian moves to 2-1 this season after throwing 5 innings with two strikeouts.
- Harris and Bre McDowell each pitched one inning and had one strikeout.
- The Tigers had six errors this game, highest this season.
