Aljets Scores Twice In Win Over La Salle

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University field hockey team earned its first win of the 2021 spring season against La Salle, defeating the Explorers 2-1. 

Sophomore Samantha Aljets scored both goals for the Tigers and senior captain Beira Ho added one assist.  

In net, Lena Vandam had five saves.  

Hannah Yanovich scored La Salle's only goal while goalkeeper Cassie Kincaid earned four saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The contest started off slowly until Aljets scored her first goal of the day in the 9th minute of competition.  

  • The second quarter was very quiet as well with the Explorers getting four shots off. Hannah King was given a green card for Towson just under 5:00 into action. 

  • In the 40th minute, Aljets struck one from the top of the arc to score her second goal, unassisted.  

  • To end the third, the Tigers successfully defended two penalty corners.  

  • In the final :30 of the game, Kelsey  Jones took a shot off a La Salle penalty corner that deflected off Vandam but then put in the net by Yanovich to cut Towson's lead to one and solidify the 2-1 finish.  

BEYOND THE BOX 

  • The win marks the first for the Tigers since October 20, 2019 when the squad defeated Temple, 1-0. 

  • Towson now leads La Salle 21-9-0 in the all-time series between the two teams and has won the two most recent meetings.  

  • After three contests, Aljets leads the Tigers with four points. She has contributed two goals on five shots.  

  • Vandam has made 21 saves so far this season and has a .724 save percentage. 

NEXT GAME 

Towson will travel to Northeastern for the first of its four-game road trip. The Tigers will face the Huskies Saturday, March 27 at 1 p.m.
