Softball Falls in Season Opener to Saint Joseph's

TOWSON, Md. – Due to the weather, the Towson University softball team played a single game to open the 2021 season. The Tigers fell to Saint Joseph's 8-4 inside the Tiger Softball Stadium Friday afternoon.

How it Happened
  • The Tigers and Hawks was scoreless through two innings.
  • The Hawks scored first in the top of the third after a single by Payton Baxter scored Sarah Ostaszewski reached base on a single.
  • Towson answered back with Nicole Kidwiler reaching base on a double to center field, Chloe Poulich advanced her after a single to right field and Madyson Peters reaching on error to score Kidwiler.
  • Saint Joseph's scored three more on the top of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.
  • The Tigers would then tie the game in the bottom of the fifth after Kidwiler got the bats hot leading off with a double to center field. Julia Jackson reached base with a bunt moving Kidwiler to third, then Chloe Poulich had a double to right field scoring Kidwiler. Lindsey Toneygay doubled to center field scoring Poulich and Jackson. (4-4)
  • The Hawks would take the final lead after scoring four more in the top of the seventh inning to end the game.
Inside the Numbers
  • This was the first game for Towson since March 8, 2020.
  • The Tigers saw three pitchers enter the circle; Melissa Abrahamian, Bre McDowell and Julia Jackson.
  • McDowell had five strikeouts for Towson.
  • Amanda Herr was the overall winning pitcher pitching five innings with four strikeouts.
  • Nicole Kidwile led the Tigers with two doubles, Chloe Poulich and Lindsey Toneygay each had one.

Towson will host Rhode Island tomorrow, March 6 for a double header contest beginning at noon inside Tiger Softball Stadium.
