STATESBORO, Ga. – The Towson University baseball team put two across in the ninth and had the tying run on base, but came up short in a 7-5 defeat at Georgia Southern.
Towson (1-8) had an early 2-0 lead at Georgia Southern (5-5), with the Eagles scoring seven unanswered to lead by five. Towson got a run back in the sixth and rallied in the ninth, but came up short with two runners on base.
Key Stats:
- Four Tigers earned multi-hit games, including Billy Godrick reaching base four times on a 2-for-3 day with a double, two walks and two runs. Each Danny Becerra and Nick Brown hit 2-for-3 with a walk, the former adding a double and two runs, while Noah Cabrera hit 2-for-5 with a run and RBI.
- Towson equaled hits with Georgia Southern which each side having 10.
- On the pitching end, Nick Janowicz had a no-decision with four innings in his start, allowing two runs and striking out a pair. The loss went to Nick Ramanjulu (0-2) with five runs in two innings with two strikeouts. Austin Weber and Kody Reeser each had a scoreless inning pitched.
- For Georgia Southern, Austin Thompson hit 2-for-3, bringing in three runs and scoring one himself. Starter Chase Dollander (1-0) won the game, going five innings with two runs and seven strikeouts, with reliever Nick Jones getting the save, finishing the ninth.
How It Happened:
- Towson got off to a fast start, leading off the first with a walk and double. Noah Cabrera singled to right to bring home a run, then two batters later, Billy Godrick scored on a throwing error to make it 2-0.
- Georgia Southern got the runs back in the bottom half of the frame off a pair of RBI singles for a 2-2 score.
- Nick Janowicz held down the Eagles through the next three innings, but GSU got five runs off the bullpen in the bottom of the fifth, including a two-run single by Austin Thompson, to lead 7-2.
- Towson got a run back on a dropped fly ball in left to score Cabrera. The bullpen got Towson through to the ninth with a four-run deficit.
- The Tigers got two on to leadoff, then a pair of outs. Nick Brown singled to load the bases. Javon Fields sent a ball up the middle to bring in a pair and put the potential tying run on first base, but a strikeout ended the inning. Towson fell 7-5.

- Dating back to last year, Brandon Austin has reached base in 16 consecutive games. Danny Becerra and Javon Fields have each reached base in all nine games this season.
- Towson has three defeats by one or two runs this year.
